So you’re getting married. Congratulations!

This is a once in a lifetime  opportunity to be a star for a day. It’s an opportunity to make that child hood dream come to pass. An opportunity to display your taste and style for the dream wedding you have always dreamt of. A major mistake made by brides is not sticking to a theme. Fair enough, you can come up with all these creative ideas, mix and match colors or even dream up something that had never been done before. However, as good as these things could be individually, chances are they could be horrific if done altogether. Stick to a theme! Ensure that all the elements you are incorporating tie in with the theme. A mistake made by brides is wanting to do it all, use every idea and in the process end up with a tacky wedding.

Themed weddings will help give an overall cohesive look and feel to the event from the invitations to the design and decor. Some brides go as far as incorporating their dinner menu as well into the theme. A great idea could include using a particular colour, a logo or destination or possibly combing all three to create a theme that brings the wedding to life.

We will look at an example of a bride who incorporated the destination with a colour as her wedding theme. The location was new, hip and modern where the basic colour scheme throughout the venue was black and white and hence, she took that inspiration but implementing a twist, a whimsical black and white wedding. Be bold in coming up with themes, get inspiration for your venue and work from that. Discuss these details with your wedding stylist to come up with a unique theme for your wedding.

Another great example is a brides who choose two bold colours: an apple green and a fuchsia pink. She used black linen with both pink and green napkins. She tied two sashes on each chair a green one and then a pink overlay. For place cards, she used real green apples with the name stuck on it. Her centrepieces were a mixture of pink flowers with green apples which ties in with the place cards.

When planning your wedding think outside the box, coming up with your theme will be one of the most exciting aspects of your wedding planning process. Remember to let it reflect who you are as a couple but don’t overdo it!

TRENDS FOR GOWNS
1. Illusion/High Necklines – We are seeing necklines creep up. Don’t get me wrong but strapless is as strong as ever. But necklines are going higher than they have before, yet are still light and feminine. The necklines are composed of all lace, embroidery, or soft tulle. Vera Wang, Lela Rose and Marchesa are all on the same page with this neckline showing up all over their latest collections.

2. Lace – Lace, lace, lace it is everywhere. All different types too. Guipere lace is making a comeback, Alencon, and Chantilly. Lace is as traditional as you can get, but it is shown with a modern touch. Monique Lhuiller, Vera Wang, and Elizabeth Fillmore love it!

3. Blush/Nude Colors – It almost seems as if the designers get together to decide on what the next big thing is. Blush seems to be everywhere. Vera Wang used nude throughout her entire collection, Monique Lhuillier continued to use beautiful soft blushes, and Elizabeth Fillmore also brought in these flattering and feminine colors to her collection.

4. Low or Transparent backs – Many brides want to show off their back, and designers have certainly delivered on this. The back of the dress is just as important as the front, designers have showcased this by creating very low backs that are either bare or have illusion lace over tulle. Lela Rose, Vera Wang, and Marchesa have all been creating gorgeous low backs in the newest collections.

5. Mermaids skirts – This flattering silhouette is getting more popular than ever! Mermaid gowns are becoming even more dramatic with fuller skirts as well as edgier twists and drapes, especially in Vera Wang’s collection. Monique Lhuillier adds beautiful soft draping to her mermaid gowns, and Marchesa creates a statement with yards and yards of tulle.

6. Long sleeves – Prior to the royal wedding we began seeing more designers create stunning gowns with straps and sleeves. Once the world saw what Catherine wore on her wedding day it just confirmed what designers had been creating in their own collections. Now sleeves are becoming more popular than they have been in decades. Designers are showing everything from delicate cap-sleeves to three quarter, to full-length lace sleeves. Elizabeth Fillmore, Monique Lhuillier, and Marchesa have all created gowns with this trend.

7. Corsets!

TRENDS FOR CAKES
Traditional three-tier cakes are not happening much. Two-tier cakes (and smaller) and individual cupcake and dessert towers are popular for 2012. Many brides want more of an assortment or organic type wedding – and the gigantic cakes are not on the top of their agenda.
Colors and design though are not something with a big variance in – although – probably more geometric and symmetrical type designs.

The bride isn’t really supposed to influence her fiancé’s choice of best man, but if she doesn’t offer a little advice, large parts of the wedding might suffer. And that’s providing the best man manages to deliver your man to the church on time. We’ve all seen the movies where an ill-advised best man takes the groom on a road trip the day before the wedding and doesn’t get back in time.

There are subtle ways you can discuss the best man choice with your fiancé without looking like you are taking over the decision (even if you really are).

Explain Your Worries

If you have the courage, you can sit down with your fiancé and talk to him about your wedding plans, from the bride’s point of view. This will allow you to explain what you’re considering in the overall planning. He will probably have someone in mind, especially with the bucks party in the offing.

The Official Choice

Etiquette will inform you that if he has a brother, then he will become the logical choice to be best man. If he has more than one brother he will either get to choose the eldest or all of them. If you have a brother as well, he will form part of the groomsman’s team. However, you don’t need to follow etiquette if this doesn’t bring you the result you need for such a demanding role.

Despite the official advice, it’s usually your fiancé’s best friend who will take over the role. Often a best friend is closer than his brother or brothers because they no doubt went to the same school and maybe college together. They will be the same age and have similar interests.

If your fiancé is troubled by making the decision as a number of his friends would fulfil the role adequately, some of them can be offered the role of usher. This way all the people you value will be part of your day.

Think About the Speech

The best man will be making one of the most important speeches at your wedding so it’s wise to consider whether the person is capable, and if he is, if he will complete the role responsibly. You won’t want to choose someone who will talk for an hour about your husband’s previous girlfriends and conquests.

He will need to know you both well enough to make a suitable, mature speech and toast at your wedding reception without providing your guests with enough gossip fodder for years to come.

The best man must be responsible. He also has to collect the tuxedos and keep the rings safe until they reach your hands. The best man will arrange the bucks party at a sensible time away from the actual wedding. Although this evening is supposed to be a slightly wild night, you don’t want a best man who will make your groom end up on YouTube.

Keeping the Groom Sober

Your best man will need to keep himself and the groom sober before the wedding. This may prove a difficult task given the amount of stress they will both be under. They need to be sober all the way through the day, especially when the best man witnesses the signing of the wedding certificate, as detailed in law.

If you have any specific roles you wish the best man to carry out, you should talk to him about this before awarding the role. They may feel uncomfortable with your choices. They might not be as religious as you are and reading certain bible passages, for example, may prove a daunting task.

If your fiancé has promised the role to a friend from years ago, is that friend still the right choice? It is your wedding so you shouldn’t let an incorrect choice at this stage cause you problems later on. As a slightly over-the-top example, the promised friend may have gone on to be a rock star so think about the implications of the press taking over your wedding for pictures of the best man and not the bride and groom… little things like that, which may not seem immediately obvious, can end up causing big pitfalls in the whole plan.

The choice is a difficult one, even if it appears obvious. Make the right decision so the whole wedding process will go smoothly.

Thousands of couples across the country are counting on today’s perfect palindromic date to bring them good luck in love, with many booking 11am services.

Marriage celebrant Terri Beirne is performing three wedding ceremonies today, including one at 11am. The wedding party will observe a minute’s silence beforehand.

”Three weddings on the one day is very unusual for me,” says Ms Beirne. ”I could have done more – I had lots of requests but I couldn’t fit them all in.”

Nikki Bennett and Dion Barter, from South Morang, set their 11.11.11 wedding a year ago because they believe it is an auspicious date.

”We thought it was pretty special because it only comes around once every 100 years and it is all about the ‘ones’ and we decided that we are ‘the ones’ for each other,” she laughs. ”We also thought it would be a good way to make sure we never forget our wedding anniversary!”

However, soon after setting the date, the couple considered changing it after they discovered that many venues, musicians, celebrants and florists were booked out. ”It has been such a popular date that it has actually caused us a lot of headaches. But we got there in the end.”

Lidia Neskovski, from the Sheldon Reception and Convention Centre in Sunshine, which will host two weddings, says she could have booked her venue 30 times over.

”If I had 30 reception centres I would have booked them all,” she says. ”I started getting calls for this date two years ago and they haven’t stopped.”

Numerologist Dean Collier says the date is a lucky one for couples because it signifies co-operation and equality. No wonder couples are excited by the one-in-100-years occurrence.

Others choose to end the evening with a romantic love song, as the final proclamation of their love for one another in front of their guests.

How do you choose the best bridal wedding flowers?

Well finding the best bouquet for the bridal party can be a daunting task, especially for people who are unfamiliar with flowers and different styles.

For those who are unaware, when choosing the best bridal wedding flowers, there are three basic types of bouquet styles to choose from.

Those three types are:

1. The round or posy
2. The cascade
3. And the hand-tied wedding bouquet.

The Round/Posy
The round bouquet is round in shape, has less greenery, but contains more flowers. These flowers can be all one type or multiple different types of flowers; however the flowers should all be balanced, complimentary or contrasting.

The Cascade

Hand-Tied
