Wedding Accessories
Shoes, Jewellery, Veils, Tiara’s… where do you start? While you’re shopping don’t forget the No.1 Rule for bridal accessories - less is more!
What girl doesn’t love to accessorize? It’s in our DNA ladies. We love embellish our look with a touch of sparkle and shimmer and what better opportunity to do this, then on our wedding day? Wedding accessories are brilliant for showing off your unique style, whether it’s understated elegance or bold, bright and bedazzling!

Once you’ve chosen your bridal gown, you can start shopping around to select those beautiful pieces to complete your wedding day look. It has been said before, but it’s worth repeating - less is more. A few well chosen accessories that complement your gown and hair style are definitely the way to go. So, where to start? We’ve compiled a brief list of wedding accessories and advice on how you should wear them.
Quick Guide to Choosing Your Wedding Accessories
Wedding Jewellery
A good rule of thumb is the more elaborate your gown, the simpler your wedding accessories should be. If your dress is intricately embroidered or beaded, choose classic diamond earrings or pearl drops to match. For a plainer style dress, select a dazzling diamond choker or for a halter neck gown, choose a diamond tennis bracelet. Remember to always match your jewellery with those on your wedding dress, so diamonds with diamonds (or diamond look-alike), pearls with pearls, and so on.
Veils
To veil or not to veil? The choice is yours. If the wedding gown is the main focus of your look for the day, you don’t want a big veil that will hide the intricate details and make you look overdone. Choose a veil with a simple trim of pearls or lace.
Where the cut of your classic style dress is the main feature, go all out and choose a beautifully detailed veil that you can wear all day. Ask your wedding dress designer to help you construct the veil so it’s easy move around in. Making a grand entrance in a full length wedding gown with a train? Opt for the cathedral length stunner with matching tiara. A chin length blusher veil is the opposite of the spectrum, and ideally suits a cute cocktail or suit length gown.
Tiara
A tiara can be worn with or without a veil and are a stunning accent to your overall look. Match a cream or ivory wedding gown with a gold or ivory tiara while white gowns are best suited to silver or white pearl tiaras. A tiara is best suited to a veil that is worn high on your head while veils worn at the nape of the neck, say under a bun, are better suited to a floral or rhinestone comb or other head piece.

Wedding Shoes
There’s no argument, stilettos look hot – but they might have you limping by the reception! When it comes to your wedding shoes, comfort is your number one priority but… you don’t have to compromise on style. There’s a wide range of options available, from cute heels to strappy evening sandals and ballet slippers. Make sure when you go shopping, you take a swatch of fabric from your wedding gown so you can match the colour accurately. You could also look at embellishing your wedding shoes to match the stones or pearls on your dress.
Other Bridal Hair Accessories
If a veil is just too much for you, try selecting some alternative bridal hair accessories to wear with your chosen hairstyle, such as:
- Flowers
- Feathers
- Hair Pins
- Bows
- Hats
- Fascinators
- Headbands
