Your Guest List

There are a few factors that you need to keep in mind when preparing your wedding day guest list. Depending on how many you invite is totally up to you. However, you will need to make sure you refer back to your budget and venue size, as this may restrict the number you can invite, in which case you will need to determine a ‘wish list’ of guests, and if required be ready to remove some.

Opinions of family may need to be considered when deciding on numbers and guests, particularly if they are contributing financially to the event. However, it’s highly suggested that you and your groom discuss your guest list privately before allowing anyone else to become involved.

Here are some ideas which may help you to reduce the number of guests if necessary:
  • Extend an open invitation to the ceremony, but limit numbers at the reception – just remember to be specific on printed invitations
  • Hold a morning tea or afternoon tea immediately after the ceremony, but before you slip away for your photos and reception. This will allow you to spend time with all your guests without the huge cost. A few refreshments won’t cost as much as receptions.
  • Place limitations on family members, such as immediate family or first cousins only (if this is able to be done without offence.)
  • Implement a ‘sorry no children’ policy. This is quite acceptable today.
